Science 9 Project
Background: Theme parks
are popular vacation destinations. The parks created by the Walt Disney
organization are well known examples of this type of recreation. An important
thing is designing rides, exhibits and structures that represent the theme(s)
chosen by the planners.
Process: The
developers of a science park have asked you to design two new giant cells that
will function as outdoor exploration structures for children. The cell
structures must be large enough so the children can walk and climb around
inside. The park developers want your design to provide opportunities for the
children to learn about the shape and function of the cells' organelles as they
move through them. One of your giant structures will be a plant cell, the other
an animal cell.
Create an information pamphlet for parents and
children showing them what to look forward to if they visit the cells. The
pamphlet must show the location of the giant cells in the park, their overall
design, the exploration pathways through them and details explaining what the
children will be seeing at the various stops inside the cells. Design your
neat, complete, colored pamphlet to be a single page that folds open into three
panels. You need visuals and text on the outside and the inside of the
pamphlet.
Goal: This
science theme park pamphlet project is focused on allowing the students take an
artistic approach to learning more about the organelles of animal and plant
cells. It’s important that the
information about the cells and their organelles is accurate and correctly
represented by the new cell rides.
