Chapter 1:
Development of the Cell Theory
Importance of the Cell Theory
- All cells perform the following functions:
- they digest nutrients
- get rid of (excrete) wastes
- make the chemicals they need (synthesize)
- reproduce
-Cells define life and death
- 10 trillion cells in the human body, different cells have different functions
- all life is composed of at least one cell
- bacteria and fungus living on your body
Abiogenesis: is a theory that states that nonliving things can spontaneously change into living things.
● Outline the events leading to the theory of abiogenesis.
- A hypothesis is a possible solution to a problem or an explanation of an observed phenomenon.
- Experimental variables are designed to test a hypothesis. Experimental groups test a single variable at a time.
- Controls are standards used to verify a scientific experiment. Controls are often conducted as parallel experiments.
Abiogenesis and Microbes
Outline the development of abiogenesis and microbes
Who is John Needham and what did he do in terms of abiogenesis?
