BIOLOGY 12: SYLLABUS

            Biology 12 is an elective science course that is preparing you for higher level courses in Biology.  Expectations of the students are high.  All of the following must be completed in order to meet the requirements of this course.  Due dates will be determined in class.  Please note that late assignments will lose 10% per day.

 

1.  Tests (30%)

     Chapter tests and quizzes cover theory from the textbook BIOLOGY  by Nelson as well as class discussions, videos, labs, etc.  You will be given at least 2 days notice before a test.

 

2.  Quizzes (20%)

            Quizzes are based on the big bold black-line words that are listed throughout each chapter.  There will not be any warning before each quiz.

 

3.  Labs.  (20%)

     Several laboratory assignments cover topics discussed in class. Demonstration of proper lab techniques and problem solving skills will be the basis of this mark.

    

4.  Assignments (20%)

Using your knowledge of biology, complete a variety of assignments.  Examples include: a research project on a biological organism, a 3 D model of a body system, poster project on a body system, and a variety of writing assignments.

 

5.  Homework (10%)

            Biology 11 is a labor intensive study course that may or may not have homework every night.  This is an incentive for the students that stay on top of the course work.

 

6.  Exam.  (30% of term)

     A final exam covers all course material and represents 30% of the end of term mark.

                       

Biology 12 is designed to continue your study of biology and provide you with scientific skills.  This course is an elective and students are expected to come prepared and ready to participate.  This course will attempt to prepare you for the AP biology class and to provide you with experience at an upper level science course.  The expectation is you will continue your studies in science.  Your success or failure in this course will depend entirely upon you.
