It is our belief that students should focus on academics while being involved in other school activities.  As a result, it is our hope that Kennebecasis Valley High School students will have a positive school experience that will promote life-long learning.

Profile of Community

Kennebecasis Valley High School serves most of the Town of Quispamsis and part of Rothesay, NB according to borders established by School District 6 in 1997.  Most students attending Kennebecasis Valley High School share similar socio-economic and racial background.  There are no defined minority groups in this area.

Resources

Kennebecasis Valley High School had an enrolment of 1041 students for the 2007/2008 school year. They were 239 Grade 12 students,  279 Grade 11 students, 270 Grade 10 students, 253 Grade 9 students and 8 students registered at an alternate site. The staff consists of 62 full-time equivalent teachers, 12 teacher assistants, 2 secretaries, 12 custodians, 2 stationary engineers, 8 cafeteria staff and one library assistant.

Kennebecasis Valley High School provides a broad range of courses in 11 different departments. Grade 9 and 10 students take five courses per semester which includes approximately 45 hours of instruction in four different specialty areas. Presently, Grades 11 and 12 take semestered courses based on a 20 credit system. English and Mathematics are year long courses in grades 9, 10.  English is also a year long course in grade 11.

Kennebecasis Valley High School has fostered high expectations for academic achievement with the awarding of high honors and honors certificates every semester. The addition of Advanced Placement courses offers further enrichment for motivated students.

There is a strong emphasis in the school on the importance of attendance. The Kennebecasis Valley High School Attendance Policy and the Attendance Incentive both promote the idea that "being here counts."

The school day begins at 8:50 with three classes of 60 minutes with a 10 minute break between each class. The lunch break is from 12:20 - 1:05.  Afternoon classes resume at 1:05 starting with a 20 minute reading period immediately following lunch. Dismissal is at 3:35.

Kennebecasis Valley High School currently has two writing labs with 32 computers, a broad-based technology lab with 31 computers, 2 computer labs in the business department, and 9 computers located in the school library.  We also have a multi-media system installed in the Science Lecture Theatre which seats 70 people. The system consists of a 60" projection television with VCR and computer video feed. There are 16 smart boards and 19 airliners to enhance student learning.

The main theatre in our school has undergone extensive renovations and is used on a continuing basis by the school for both drama productions and theatre arts classes, as well as by the community.

There is a main, full sized gymnasium and a second mini-gym to accommodate physical education and team competitions. Kennebecasis Valley High School also has access to two outdoor playing fields and three tennis courts, all of which are shared with the surrounding community.
