November 15, 2008 - Reach for the Top Team Finishes First at Reach for Dal
Four students from Kennebecasis Valley High School were victorious in Halifax on Saturday at the 5th annual
Reach for Dal event. Hosted by Dalhousie University, this event included 22 of the best teams from across the Maritimes
in a high school trivia competition based on Reach for Top.
The team, which included Nick Manuel, Stephen Spence, Jesse Lenton, Alexander Maxan, and coach Jason Thorne,
qualified for the quarter finals, having been ranked in the top four after the qualification round. On the road to
the finals, KV beat Halifax West High as well as Citadel High of Halifax. In the final, the Crusaders were victorious
over Cobequid Educational Center of Truro, winners of the event in 2004 and 2005. This was KV's first win at Reach for
Dal, having finished second in 2005 and 2007.
As winners of the event, each member of the team won a full scholarship for their first year at Dalhousie
University, valued at almost $8000 each. KV's Reach for the Top team will now focus on the provincial Reach for the
Top season, which they begin on Saturday at Bernice MacNaughton High School in Moncton as four-time defending provincial
champions.
