Student Services

GUIDANCE

Two guidance counsellors concentrate in ongoing educational, career, personal and social counselling for individual students and/or groups.  Counsellors also consult and coordinate with teachers, parents, administrators and the community when needed. Additionally, counsellors are involved in high school course selections as well as registrations for University and Community Colleges. Since the Provincial Comprehensive Guidance Program is now part of the high school curriculum, counsellors aid in its implementation and act as system support. Career information and exploration, scholarships, and special programs such as study skills, are part of this comprehensive guidance program.

RESOURCE and METHODS

Three Resource Specialists serve students with various learning profiles.  Each of these Resource Specialists collaborates with students, teachers, and parents, to provide support through the creation of effective Special Education Plans.  The service model followed by all resource staff is one of collaborative consultation and follows the documentation contained in “Guidelines and Standards Educational Planning for Students with Exceptionalities” Dept of Ed. July 2002

WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

This grade 11 and 12 program was established to provide a meaningful two year course, leading to graduation, for students who would not be successful in other school programs. This course develops skills which will help students become successful and employable citizens.  For most students, this course will be the final link between school and work.  Work experience in the community is an important part of this program.
