Social Studies Project #Two

Canadian Identity

This project is similar to Project Number One; however the depth of the research must connect the topic to Canada, Canadian Cultural and Canadian Social Activities.   You are free to choose whatever aspect of Canada you wish, so long as you are able to clearly establish a connection to Canadian Identity.  You may not simply pick a Canadian band and tell me of their songs and concerts.  You would need to establish a connection between the music and Canadian culture.

Students are required to meet the following expectations:

  • One page written research paper on your topic

Students are to research and interpret the information.  It is expected that students present the information in their own words.  Plagiarism is a step worthy offence.

  • A three to five minute oral presentation

Students will provide the class with an overview of their topic and discuss the top five most interesting things about the topic.

  • To prepare a visual component which represents the topic

Students will share with the class during their oral presentation, a visual which enhances their topic.  It may be a series of photos, a symbol of the topic, an article associated to the topic etc.

Each section of the project is worth ten marks for a total of thirty.  The written part must be in blue or black ink and be on plain white paper, whether typed or hand written.  The font should be no larger than 12 point.  There must also be a proper title page on the copy being handed in for marks.

If you have any questions, please ask!  Do not risk a poor mark because you do not understand the assignment.  Yes, you have to do the oral presentation!!  It is not optional.
