Citizenship Award
Rationale
- To promote and recognize outstanding student involvement in school and the community at
large.
- To encourage students to become well-rounded and responsible individuals.
- To strengthen ties between KVHS and the community.
Award
The Citizenship Award will exist at two consecutive levels.
- Level 1 - certificate.
- Level 2 - pin.
Requirements
Level 1
- A: The student will complete a minimum of 50 hours of service to KVHS by participating
in at least 5 different school events, activities, groups, or teams. A student may
accumulate no more than 15 hours in each of the following areas and each activity can
be used only once for this award:
- Drama
- Physical Education
- Music
- School Committees
- Leadership Activities
- Applied Technology
- B: The student will complete 20 hours of direct service to an individual, group, or
organization in our community in order to promote responsible citizenship and enhance the
quality of life in our area.
Level 2
Same requirements as above (50) hours service in the school, 20 hours service in the community). Also, a self-initiated service project to benefit
the community. The outline of the project must be clearly described on an application form and approved by the citizenship committee.
Format
The student is responsible for having all their service hours documented and verified
by a supervising adult on a form supplied by KVHS. When the requirements of the award have
been met, the student must submit all documentation to the designated person. There is no
time limit for this award and it can be earned at any time throughout the student's high
school career.
